Are We Ready to Believe in America Again?
Even though Barack Obama has occupied the White House for a while, it’s probably still too early to see if the interest that people showed in the political process during the election will continue as we move forward. Obama’s African American heritage was history-making, but we have yet to see if that interest will translate into anything long term.
It would benefit everyone in the United States, because we’ve been torn asunder long enough. American veterans would certainly benefit from such a change. Many were wounded in American conflagrations and in the case of the Viet Nam war, they sometimes came home to substandard medical care and public derision. That’s the reason I felt compelled to create some veteran clipart that pays tribute to veterans. Using the clip art wherever veterans will see it is a small way we can pay tribute to them. That appreciation could mean the world to veterans who have been disenfranchised. It’s important that we not just celebrate American veterans with occasional vintage Memorial Day cards. Americans need to value them all the time. They certainly have earned it. If we don’t extend that respect toward them; who will?
On the other hand, every American –- not just veterans -– would benefit from the unification of America. I would love to see people saluting the American flag when on parade, because they genuinely believe in what the flag stands for. With any luck, that genuine feeling will help promote peace. At this moment, it’s up in the air as to whether this unity will come to be. There are some people who are having a bad reaction to President Obama’s actions. But that’s to be expected. Those checks and balances are important to make sure no one party gets out of control. That’s the way it’s supposed to work anyway. The people of the United States will just have to see what happens.
